- Better than Drugs: Immersive VR and Pain Modulation Slides
Over a decade of works in immersive Virtual Reality (VR) have resulted in data that strongly suggests that VR can be more effective than opiates in the amelioration of acute and chronic pain. Such research is explained in terms of "pain distraction." As the result of a CRC, Gromala's work continues in this and related areas. It is differentiated to similar work in its theoretical and medical assumptions and construction.
Diane Gromala is an Associate Professor at the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, SFU.
