Information Visualization for the Eyes and Mind slides
This talk is a bit about current trends in infovis in general, but also about other aspects of visual thinking and communication, such as infographics, and the importance of basing what we do on empirically proven design practices. As visual media are becoming more prevalent in our world, much of what we see lacks exhibit ineffective design, especially in those areas where information design and art are blending.
Stephen Few has worked for over 25 years as an information technology innovator, teacher, and consultant. Today, as Principal of the consultancy Perceptual Edge, he focuses on practical uses of data visualization to explore, analyze, and present quantitative information. He writes the monthly Visual Business Intelligence Newsletter, speaks frequently at conferences, teaches in the MBA program at the University of California, Berkeley, and is the author of two popular books: Show Me the Numbers: Designing Tables and Graphs to Enlighten and Information Dashboard Design: The Effective Visual Communication of Data. His third book, Now You See It: Simple Visualization Techniques for Quantitative Analysis, will be published in early 2009. You can learn more about his work at www.perceptualedge.com
